Islamabad: The final day of the M-Tag deadline ended in the federal capital on Thursday, with officials announcing that action against vehicles without M-Tag will begin from tomorrow.
Authorities confirmed that checks will start at 12 points across the city, while M-Tag services remain available at 16 locations to help citizens comply before enforcement begins.
The Islamabad administration has completed preparations to enforce the M-Tag requirement for vehicles operating in the federal capital. On the last day of the deadline, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad visited several checkpoints along with the Director General Safe City to review arrangements for enforcement.
The Chief Traffic Officer and the Senior Superintendent of Police Operations were also present during the visit. Officials examined the functioning of M-Tag readers installed at different points to ensure they can identify vehicles without the required tag.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, M-Tag readers will be used at checkpoints to stop vehicles that do not have the tag installed. He said enforcement will begin from tomorrow and warned that vehicles found without M-Tag may face action under the law.
Officials said that, in the first phase, operations will be carried out at 12 checkpoints across Islamabad. These checkpoints have been selected at key entry and exit routes as well as busy roads to ensure effective implementation.
Director General Excise Irfan Memon stated that the administration has made arrangements to facilitate citizens before the start of enforcement. He said M-Tag services are currently being provided at 16 designated points in the city to allow vehicle owners to obtain the tag without delay.
The Deputy Commissioner urged citizens to get M-Tag installed immediately to avoid inconvenience. He said the purpose of enforcement is to ensure compliance with traffic and toll management systems and to maintain an organized flow of vehicles in the capital.
Officials also advised citizens to check the operational status of their M-Tag after installation to ensure it can be read by scanners at checkpoints. They said staff at service points are available to guide vehicle owners and resolve issues related to registration and activation.
The administration reiterated that the deadline has now expired and there will be no further extension. From tomorrow, enforcement teams will be active on the ground, and vehicles without M-Tag will be stopped during checks.
Citizens have been asked to cooperate with authorities and complete the process at the earliest. Officials said timely compliance will help avoid penalties and delays during travel, as checks will continue on a regular basis after the start of enforcement.
