MULTAN:Trials for mat wrestling will be held on Saturday, October 17, at 3pm at the wrestling arena of focal person and Rustam-e-Pakistan Hamid Pehlwan to select Multan’s team for upcoming inter-district and inter-division competitions, District Sports Officer Multan Adnan Naeem said.
The trials will be open to wrestlers from Multan Sadar, Multan City, Shujabad and Jalalpur Pirwala tehsils, providing local athletes an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and compete for a place in the district team.
Adnan Naeem said the trials were being organised under the annual sports calendar prepared by the Sports and Youth Affairs Department Punjab in line with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision of declaring 2026 the ‘Year of Youth.’
Under the calendar, sports competitions and related activities are being organised every month at tehsil, district and divisional levels. Mat wrestling has also been included among the sporting activities scheduled for the current month.
A selection committee comprising Hamid Pehlwan and other renowned wrestlers will assess the participants’ abilities and wrestling techniques before selecting the best available team to represent Multan. The selected wrestlers will first compete at the inter-district level and subsequently participate in inter-division competitions.
Adnan Naeem urged wrestlers from the eligible tehsils to participate in the trials in large numbers and demonstrate their abilities to secure a place in the Multan team, adding that sporting activities provide young athletes with opportunities to bring recognition to their areas and city.
