KARACHI:Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, accompanied by Sindh Minister for Culture Syed Zulfiqar Shah, visited the under-construction Chaukhandi Museum and reviewed the ongoing development work.
On the occasion, Director General Parks Junaidullah Khan gave the Mayor and the provincial minister a detailed briefing on the progress of the project, ongoing work and other related matters.
Speaking on the occasion, Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that Karachi’s history is enriched with a remarkable cultural heritage that needs to be preserved and highlighted. He said that safeguarding the city’s historical identity and improving its cultural landmarks are among their key responsibilities.
He said that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), in collaboration with the Sindh Culture Department, would introduce additional facilities at Chaukhandi Museum to improve the historic site and enhance its overall appearance. ‘Our responsibility is not limited to restoring the city’s infrastructure; it is also about restoring Karachi’s original identity and historical grandeur,’ he said.
The Mayor stated that protecting the city’s historical heritage was not merely a responsibility but also a matter of pride. He said that historical sites such as Chaukhandi Museum reflect the region’s civilisation, culture and past, making effective measures for their preservation and improvement essential.
He further said that, alongside enhancing the museum, access roads, security arrangements and other essential facilities would also be improved. These measures would make it easier for citizens and tourists to reach the historic site and explore its cultural heritage in a better environment.
Mayor Karachi said that special arrangements would be made to increase tourist visits to Chaukhandi Museum. Efforts would focus on making the museum more attractive and providing visitors with the necessary facilities so that Karachi’s historical heritage could be promoted at both national and international levels.
Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, Director General Parks Junaidullah Khan, officials of the Sindh Culture Department and other relevant authorities were also present during the visit.
