ATTOCK:A suspected criminal wanted in 12 cases of robbery, theft and snatching was arrested in an injured condition following an exchange of fire with the Crime Control Department (CCD) in Attock, police said on Thursday.

According to a police spokesperson, the suspect was allegedly injured by his own accomplices during the exchange of fire. The incident occurred when a CCD team, led by District Officer DSP Yasir Matloob Kiyani and Station House Officer Inspector Imran Haider, established a checkpoint near Golra village on Attock-Sanjwal Road. The suspected criminals allegedly opened fire after being signalled to stop, prompting the police team to retaliate.

After the firing stopped, police launched a search operation and arrested Riasat Ali, a native of Mardan, who was wanted in 12 cases registered in Taxila, Hassanabdal, Hazro, Rangoo and Attock. He was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for medico-legal formalities, while senior police officers also reached the scene. A case was registered on behalf of the state.

Police said another suspect escaped under the cover of darkness. A search operation is underway to arrest the fleeing suspect and other accomplices, while further investigation is in progress.
