ISLAMABAD: Coordinator of the National Emergency Operations Centre for Polio Eradication Dr. Shahzad Asif Baig on Wednesday commended the ongoing anti-polio drive and reiterated his commitment to achieving a polio-free country.
Talking to a private news channel, he expressed optimism about Pakistan’s potential removal from the list of polio-affected countries very soon.
He highlighted the extensive door-to-door vaccination campaign involving over 400,000 polio workers administering drops to approximately 45 million children adding that children were also given extra doses of vitamin A to strengthen their immune systems.
He said that polio drops were crucial in preventing the disease and called parents to support the vaccination drive actively.
Dr. Baig underscored the critical role of political, religious, medical, educational, and artistic leaders in encouraging public participation and dispelling myths about vaccination.
He appealed to all stakeholders, including the media, to spread positive messages
and promote widespread vaccination.
