Need stressed for promoting veterinary research

Bahawalpur: Experts reached consensus to conduct research in livestock sector by promoting mutual cooperation in this regard in Bahawalpur region.



According to an official press release issued here, a delegation from the Islamia University of Bahawalpur led by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Kamran along with Dr Faisal Shahzad, Chairman, Department of Livestock Management, and Dr. Muhammad Rashid Shaheen, Associate Professor, Department of Horticultural Sciences, visited VitaGene Farms to explore opportunities for strengthening university-industry collaboration and developing a sustainable public-private partnership in the fields of veterinary sciences, livestock management, agriculture and allied disciplines.



During the visit, Dr Qaiser, Dr Haider and Dr Amina briefed the IUB delegation about the farm’s ongoing activities, available facilities and future development plans. The discussions focused particularly on establishing a joint IUB- VitaGene project, with an initial collaboration involving approximately 500 animals.



The proposed collaboration will include Artificial Insemination (AI) and Embryo Transfer (ET) activities, besides creating opportunities for joint initiatives in livestock production, reproductive technologies, research, training and applied agricultural sciences. The proposed partnership will provide IUB students with a practical platform for hands-on training and research in modern livestock production and reproductive technologies, while creating opportunities for faculty research, student internships, field training, joint research projects, technology transfer and capacity building.
