Over 450 illegal structures demolished in anti-encroachment drive

District

PESHAWAR:The district administration here has demolished more than 450 shops, markets and other illegal structures along Ring Road and adjoining areas as part of a major anti-encroachment operation, Deputy Commissioner Afaq Wazir said.

The operation, launched on the DC’s directives, aims to retrieve government land, clear public passageways, ease traffic congestion and improve commuting facilities for residents.

The district administration is conducting the operation in coordination with the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) and other relevant departments. Heavy machinery is being used to remove illegal structures and encroachments at Jamil Chowk, Pir Zakori Flyover, Pishtakhara Chowk and other parts of the Ring Road.

The administration expects the clearance of public land and roads to improve traffic flow, reduce travel time and facilitate commuters in the affected areas.

Afaq Wazir has directed the relevant departments to continue the operation through coordinated efforts and take effective measures to prevent encroachments from reappearing on the cleared land.

He said the campaign served the public interest by improving urban facilities, widening roads and ensuring smoother traffic movement. He added that action against illegal occupation of government land and encroachments would continue across Peshawar without discrimination.
