PCMEA calls for taking steps to stabilize rupee

LAHORE:Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMEA) Senior Vice Chairman Usman Ashraf has said that government should take concrete steps to overcome fluctuations of dollar rate.

Addressing a review meeting regarding the hand-woven carpets industry in exports here Sunday, he added that in the current situation, manufacturers were reluctant to enter into any kind of contracts with foreign buyers, which might led to reduction in exports volume.

He said that government and State Bank of Pakistan should make a strict policy so that there was no instability in the dollar market. “Due to fluctuations in the dollar rate, there is difficulty in securing contracts with foreign buyers, which is having a very negative impact on the hand-woven carpet industry,” he argued.

He said that Finance Ministry should keep the value of the dollar stable at a level so that the export agreements at the negotiating stage could be ratified and the exporters could prepare their orders in time and ensure their delivery.

Chairman of Carpet Training Institute Pervaiz Hanif, Senior Central Leader of the Association Abdul Latif Malik, Senior Members Riaz Ahmed, Saeed Khan, Major (Rtd) Akhtar Nazir, Shahid Hasan, Akbar Malik, Ejazur Rehman and others attended the meeting.
