Pedestrian killed as speeding van crashes into bridge in Shikarpur

Sukkur: A pedestrian, identified as Waheed Shah, son of Manzoor Shah, was killed after a speeding van travelling from Karachi crashed into the bridge at Sim Shakh near Lakhi Ghulam Shah here Friday. The van subsequently caught fire and was completely gutted.



According to initial reports, the van was travelling at high speed from Karachi when its driver lost control and the vehicle collided with the Sim Shakh bridge. The impact proved fatal for Waheed Shah, who was passing by on the road at the time of the accident.



Shortly after the collision, the van suddenly caught fire, reportedly after becoming entangled with electrical wires. The driver and cleaner managed to escape from the vehicle and fled the scene to save their lives.



Upon receiving information about the incident, personnel from the Shikarpur Fire Brigade, Rescue 1122 and Lakhi Ghulam Shah police rushed to the scene.



The fire brigade staff launched an operation and eventually brought the blaze under control. However, the van was completely burned and reduced to ashes.



Fortunately, the van was empty at the time of the accident, preventing further casualties among its occupants. The death of the pedestrian, however, cast a pall of grief over the incident.



Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
