Bahawalpur: Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Irfan Ali Kathia chaired a review meeting on the implementation of the petrol subsidy announced by the Punjab government for the public.
Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Syed Hasan Raza, Assistant Commissioners from across the district, Deputy Commissioner Rahim Yar Khan Zaheer Anwar Jappa and Deputy Commissioner Bahawalnagar Syed Muhammad Abbas Shah participated in the meeting through video link. Officers of the Civil Defence, Excise and Industries departments were also present. The meeting reviewed implementation of the government’s petrol subsidy initiative, measures to ensure that its benefits reached citizens in a transparent and effective manner, and arrangements for the prompt resolution of problems being faced by the public at petrol pumps.
Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia directed all relevant departments to ensure full compliance with the government’s directives regarding the petrol subsidy. He also directed the authorities to provide citizens with clear and timely information about the applicable prices and the procedure for availing the subsidy. He ordered petrol pumps to prominently display information and banners regarding the subsidy and directed the establishment of special facilitation counters at petrol stations to guide citizens. Officials of the Excise Department and district administration would be deployed at these counters to provide complete information about the subsidy mechanism, available facilities and other related matters.
The commissioner directed Assistant Commissioners to conduct regular inspections of petrol pumps and ensure effective monitoring of the implementation of the subsidy scheme. He made it clear that negligence in implementing the petrol subsidy would not be tolerated and that action would be taken against those responsible in case of violations of government directives. He further directed the concerned officers to strengthen monitoring of petrol pumps so that the benefits of the government’s public relief initiative could reach citizens in real terms. Commissioner said the district administration and relevant departments must remain proactive in facilitating citizens and resolving their problems promptly, while ensuring effective field-level implementation of the petrol subsidy.
