Lahore: Under the guidance of Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) is actively working to protect citizens’ lives and property and ensure adherence to laws on the highways. The PHP teams are not only combating crime but also providing citizens with every possible assistance, cooperation, and guidance.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has instructed the Additional IG PHP to enhance the effectiveness of field patrolling on highways and ensure strict legal actions against violations without discrimination. He emphasized that a more effective strategy should be adopted to prevent highway crime, and that no effort should be spared in providing police services to citizens. He conveyed these instructions during a briefing with officers at the Central Police Office.
Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) has released its performance report for July 2024. According to the details PHP teams checked 2.94 million individuals on roads using the e-Police Post app. During these checks, 483 wanted
criminals and court fugitives were arrested. Across Punjab’s highways, 1.6 million vehicles were inspected, leading to the recovery of 226 stolen vehicles/motorcycles. Under the Road Safety Campaign, over 232,000 traffic violations were ticketed. As many as 43,000 overloaded vehicles were ticketed and subjected to legal action for axle load violations. A total of 97.8 million rupees in fines were collected and deposited into the treasury. Legal action was taken against 862 vehicles for illegal use of gas cylinders. For public convenience, over 14,000 driving licenses were issued, 63 missing children were reunited with their parents, 322 temporary and permanent encroachments were removed to improve traffic flow, and 8,236 passengers received various types of assistance and guidance from the PHP teams.
At PHP check posts across the province, police service centers provided various services to 5,403 citizens. As many as 80 cases were registered for illegal use of weapons. From drug dealers, 814 liters of alcoho
l and over 26 kilograms of hashish were recovered.
The IG Punjab commended the PHP for outstanding performance. He directed that efforts to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhance citizen service and safety be carried out with even greater diligence and sincerity.
