MULTAN: Protesting doctors at Pak Italian Modern Burn Centre (PIBC) against its Executive Director Dr Naveed Aar responded to a call from the Pakistan Medical Association by putting on black armbands and fulfilling their duties on Monday.
Following a gas leak explosion at the Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi Institute of Cardiology Hospital (CPEIC) which resulted in one injured being transferred to the centre , doctors immediately took charge and examined the injured.
President PMA Multan, Dr. Masood ur -Rauf Hiraj, stated that the Burn Center in Multan, along with the rest of South Punjab, is the sole refuge for the people, which they will not allow to be overshadowed by politics. In the interest of humanity, doctors have today donned black armbands and fulfilled their duties, although protests against political interference in the Burn Center will continue until its cessation.
Resigned Professor Wasim Rabbani stated that protests would continue until appointments against merit, including the Executive Director a
nd Senior Registrar, are removed from their positions.
All parties have submitted their responses to the committee formed by the Vice-Chancellor of Nishtar Medical University, Dr Mehnaz Khakwani but no final report from any inquiry committee has yet been released. Meanwhile, during this period, patients coming from far and wide for treatment at the PIBC are experiencing severe difficulties.
Earlier, NMU VC, Dr Mehnaz Khakwani and Nishtar Hospital MS, Dr Kazim Khan inquired after the injured patient, Amjad (35) who was wounded in the cylinder blast in the CPEIC and is under treatment at Nishtar A and E ward.
Director Emergency, Dr Zahid Ahmad briefed them about the treatment being extended to him besides other facilities for the patients.
