Mirpur (ajk): Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister (AJK PM) Barrister Syed Iftikhar Ali Gillani on Thursday congratulated Dr Muhammad Najeeb Naqi on his election as AJK President, terming it a ‘good omen’ for the region and a matter of pride for the people of Poonch.
Addressing the AJK Legislative Assembly, the PM said the election of a ‘son of Poonch’ to the presidency was a ‘breath of fresh air’, while lauding Dr Najeeb Naqi and his family for their longstanding services to the people of Poonch and Azad Kashmir.
PM Gillani thanked PML-N President Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam, Rana Sanaullah, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and the parliamentary party for their support and cooperation.
Reiterating his government’s commitment to an inclusive political approach, he said the opposition would be taken on board on matters of vital national interest and no one would be subjected to political victimisation. He stressed that the sanctity and dignity of the Legislative Assembly would be maintained and strengthened.
The PM said the government was preparing a comprehensive policy for the construction and development of Azad Kashmir. He regretted that elections had not yet been held in seven Poonch constituencies, saying the Assembly would remain incomplete until the electoral process was completed, and expressed hope that polls would be held soon.
PM Gillani said no transfers had so far been made by the government and officials posted during the previous administration continued to serve.
Referring to the education package, he said objections had been raised over it and a committee had been constituted to examine the matter. He reiterated his government’s resolve to work with the opposition for the development of Azad Jammu Kashmir.
