RAWALPINDI:Rawalpindi District Police on Thursday devised a comprehensive plan to ensure security on Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) to be celebrated on Sept 29, Friday.
The police have issued a foolproof security plan for Eid-Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), a police spokesman said.
He informed that under the security plan, more than 6000 cops and police officers would be deployed to ensure the security of Eid Milad-un-Nabi processions.
He said that City Police Officer, Rawalpindi Syed Khalid Hamdani had directed the police officers and SHOs to ensure law and order in their respective areas and make all-out efforts to provide security cover to the processions to be taken out at the local level.
A total of 137 Eid Milad-un-Nabi processions would be taken out in Rawalpindi district on 12 Rabi-ul-Awal, he said adding, Police would utilize all available resources to provide foolproof security to the processions.
Police officials would also be assisted by traffic wardens, Muhafiz Force, Punjab Constabulary, Elite Force, Special Branch, ladies police and volunteers to ensure security.
Main Milad procession of Rawalpindi city would be provided foolproof security cover while over 3000 cops would be deployed on the route of the procession. Walk-through gates would be installed at entry points of the main procession while body search of the participants would also be conducted.
Snipers would be deployed at rooftops of the buildings on the route of the main procession while searching and sweeping of the route would also be conducted before start of the Milad procession.
All the streets and the link roads would be sealed on the main procession route, he added.
Other 136 processions of the district would also be provided tight security cover as 3100 cops would ensure security on Eid Milad un Nabi.
City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi had also devised a comprehensive traffic plan to maintain traffic flow on Eid Milad-ul-Nabi (PBUH).
More than 455 traffic police officers and traffic wardens would be on special duty to provide the best traffic facilities to the citizens under which parking of vehicles or handcarts on the route of the Milad processions would be prohibited.
According to a CTP spokesman, two main processions would be taken out. First procession would start from Jamia Masjid Hanafia Jamia Masjid Road at 10:00 am which would pass through different routes of the city including Pul Shah Nazar, Bani Chowk, Murree Road, Committee Chowk, Liaquat Road, Fawara Chowk, passing through Dungi Khoi and would return to the starting point. The route of the procession would be sealed.
Traffic going from Rawalpindi to Islamabad would be diverted from Jang Building U-turn towards Kachhari Chowk. Whereas, Traffic from Liaquat Bagh to Fawara Chowk would be diverted from DAV College towards Gawalmandi.
The second procession would be taken out at 9:30 AM from Chongi No. 22 which would start from Tench Road Dhok Syedan Chowk, Kalma Chowk, No. 22 Chowk, Adara Road, State Life Building Turn, MH Chowk, Mahfooz Chowk, Mansehra Adda, Cantt, Nishtar Street, Adamji Road, Mithukhan Hata, Railway Road Military Account, Kamran Market to GTS Chowk (Old Varan Adda) and after passing through the designated route would culminate at its starting point.
During the procession, traffic coming from Kalma Chowk to Chungi 22 Chowk would be diverted to Harley Street. Traffic going to Khattak Chowk CMH and Tench would be diverted towards Harley Street, while when the procession would reach Mall Road, traffic coming from Peshawar Road would be diverted towards Qasim Market.
Traffic coming from Katchery Chowk towards TM Chowk would be diverted towards Murree Road.
He said that Murree Road from Marrir Chowk to Benazir Bhutto Hospital would remain closed during the main procession while the traffic coming from Islamabad to be sent to Rawal Road and Islamabad bound traffic from Saddar, Rawalpindi would be diverted towards Katchery Chowk from Marrir.
The spokesman informed that the entry of heavy traffic would be prohibited during the Milad procession.
The CTO had directed the officers concerned to remove all kinds of encroachments from the routes of the processions besides keeping a vigilant eye on suspects.
