Policy adopted to reduce effects of climate change, incidents of GLOF, locust attack: Barrister Saif

PESHAWAR:Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, Mahmood Khan chairing the cabinet meeting here Tuesday said that KP has become the first province who has approved Provincial Climate Change Policy and Action Plan 2022.

Cabinet meeting among others was attended by Ministers, CM aides, Chief Secretary, Senior Members Board of Revenue, Additional Chief Secretary and concerned officials.

Briefing the media about decisions taken in cabinet meeting, Special Assistant to KP CM on Information, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif said that climate change policy and action plan was adopted in the backdrop of climate change that was the reason behind incidents of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) and locust attacks in southern districts.

He told that new policy is compatible to changing scenario of climate and is target oriented to control floods, locust attack, reduce green house effect and also meet the demands of ecological zones in merged districts.

Barrister Said told that CM has also directed to feasibility of setting a plant for generating energy from garbage and amendments in existing law to purchase land for universities.

He said that cabinet has also directed to ink Memorandum of Understanding with Bank of Khyber relating to Insaf Food Cards, approved four names of non-official members to constitute Forestry Commission, to increase ambit of Water and Sanitation Services Company to 11 village council and five neighborhood councils of Tehsil Bannu, lease of land to tourism department to construct cultural complex in Mardan, amendments in Private Schools Regulatory Authority Act 2017and also approved KP Industrial Statistics Welfare of Labor Rules 2022.
