PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Secretary Information, Amjad Khan Afridi, has strongly criticized the provincial government for its failure to prevent deforestation.
In a statement, he claimed that the government’s slogan of protecting forests is merely a paper exercise, with no real action taken on the ground.
He said that forest officials have failed to protect our forests, alleging that trucks loaded with timber are operating day and night under government patronage.
He highlighted the helplessness of the public against the powerful timber mafia, which he accused of operating with impunity.
Amjad Afridi warned that due to government negligence, both forests and wildlife are nearing extinction.
He urged the government to take immediate and effective measures to stop deforestation and safeguard the remaining forests and wildlife.
