ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Tuesday filed a review petition to the Supreme Court of Pakistan against the verdict regarding reserved seats.
Advocate Farook H. Naek moved the petition on behalf of PPP and prayed the top court to review its judgment dated July 12.
The petition has named 11 respondents including Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).
It adopted the stance that Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) has been given reserved seats despite it was neither a respondent or it made such prayer. It said that chairman SIC contested election as independent candidate, adding that no one participated in elections from the platform of SIC.
It said that reserved seats shouldn’t be allocated to PTI. The PPP said in its plea that whether the reserved seats should be given to SIC who even didn’t submitted list for it.
It further asked that whether the reserved seats should be given to a party whose candidates didn’t submit nomination papers. If the reserved seats could be
left vacant or it could be allocated to the party who contested elections, it asked.
It may be mentioned here that the PML-N has already filed a review petition in the said case.
