SARGODHA: The Special Operations Cell of Sargodha Region has arrested a proclaimed offender(PO) wanted in a murder case from Dubai with the assistance of Interpol,police said on Friday.
According to a police spokesperson,the accused,Irfan had allegedly killed Ziaullah in 2022 within the jurisdiction of Shahpur Sadar Police Station over a personal enmity and subsequently fled abroad to evade arrest.
The police launched a special drive to trace and arrest the suspect in coordination with relevant agencies.
The accused was traced to Dubai and arrested with the assistance of Interpol,the spokesperson added.
The arrested suspect was subsequently produced before a local court while further legal proceedings have been initiated.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sargodha,Sohail Akhtar Sukhera said proclaimed offenders hiding in different countries were being traced and brought back through coordinated efforts.
He said red notices had so far been issued against 141 accused persons,of whom more than 38 had been arrested abroad and brought before local courts.
The RPO further said police were in constant contact with relevant federal and international institutions for the arrest and repatriation of 27 accused persons currently abroad.
He expressed confidence that efforts to bring the remaining suspects to justice would continue in coordination with the concerned authorities.
