LAHORE:Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has launched a province-wide crackdown on vehicles bearing fake, cloned and tampered number plates, using advanced surveillance technology across 43 smart safe cities, including Lahore.
According to a PSCA spokesperson, Safe City cameras automatically detect suspicious number plates and generate instant alerts. Vehicles with registration numbers concealed by tape, cloth or other objects are also being monitored through the surveillance system.
The spokesperson said that several suspicious vehicles had been traced and apprehended for legal action in Lahore and other parts of the province following alerts generated by the Safe City system. The control room was immediately informing relevant police teams to take action against such vehicles.
Legal proceedings, including registration of cases, were under way against those using fake, cloned or tampered number plates, the spokesperson added.
The authority had adopted a zero-tolerance policy against concealing number plates or altering vehicle registration numbers, the spokesperson said, urging citizens to use original and approved number plates in accordance with their vehicle registration records.
Citizens were also advised to immediately report to Police Helpline 15 if they found their vehicle’s registration number being used on another vehicle.
