Islamabad:Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday moved a petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan challenging the Election Act Amendment Bill 2024.
The petition has been moved by PTI’s Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan which requested the top court to annul the recent amendments.
The petition is moved under Article 184/3 of the constitution through the lawyer Salman Akram Raja. The federation and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) have been named as respondents in the case.
The PTI has adopted the stance that the amendments should be declared as unconstitutional and illegal, and the ECP should be immediately stopped from allotting reserved seats to other political parties.
It prayed the court to order allotment of reserved seats for women and non-Muslims to PTI as it was the right of petitioner political party after the judgment dated July 12, adding that the party has submitted the lists of candidates to the ECP.
