QUETTA:Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Quetta, Dostain Dashti, said on Thursday that all available resources are being utilized to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in Quetta city and to modernize the traffic management system.
He described the media as the fourth pillar of the state, urging journalists to highlight the shortcomings and errors of the traffic police so that timely measures could be taken to maintain traffic flow. He emphasized that the doors of his office are always open to journalists.
He expressed these views while speaking during a visit to the Quetta Press Club, where he distributed driving licenses to journalists. Quetta Press Club President Irfan Saeed, General Secretary Ayub Tareen, and other senior journalists were also present on the occasion.
SSP Traffic Dostain Dashti mentioned that, following special directives from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Balochistan, the traffic police have been provided with new, modern motorcycles and vehicles. He noted that this would make the patrolling system on all major thoroughfares of Quetta city significantly more effective.
He stated that the traffic system in Quetta has been fully integrated with the Safe City Project, and work on digitizing all traffic police operations under the Quetta Project is proceeding rapidly.
He added that non-functional traffic signals have been reactivated to enhance the city’s aesthetics and ensure organized traffic flow. To maintain order and address disruptions, over 100 trained volunteers are performing duties alongside the traffic police.
SSP Traffic Dostain Dashti acknowledged a shortage of traffic police personnel, noting that, acting on the IG Police’s directives, a merit-based recruitment process to fill these vacancies would commence soon.
He stated that awareness campaigns are being conducted in various educational institutions to prevent traffic accidents and ensure adherence to the law, aiming to foster traffic discipline among the nation’s youth.
He remarked that the initiative to provide driving licenses to journalists at the Quetta Press Club is intended to facilitate the journalistic community and promote the practical message of obeying the law.
Through the media, he appealed to citizens to extend their full cooperation to the traffic police in resolving traffic-related issues in Quetta.
