ISLAMABAD:The ratio of road accidents and violations of traffic rules have declined in federal capital after introduction of e-challan system and desired results are being achieved through it.
It was stated by Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Rai Mazhar Iqbal while reviewing the overall impact after launch of e-challan system.
The system launched by Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) in coordination with Safe City Project is very much successful and efforts are being made to modernize traffic system in the city.
The initiative of e-challan system is aimed at ensuring implementation on traffic laws. The commuters receive tickets at their home address after reporting violations through Safe City cameras, installed at various locations in the city.
The system is linked to the Safe City and Excise and Taxation Office.
The challan were issued on various violations including over speeding, signal jumping, lane, one way, driving without lights, rash driving, smoke emission, mobile phone usage and not wearing seat-belt and helmet during drive.
The SSP said that more than 1,680 challans have been issued under this system during last one month and it has helped a lot to control lane and signal violations.
The e-challans are dispatched at the addresses of violators which they have mentioned at Excise and Taxation Office at the time of registration of their vehicles.
In case of non-payment of fine amount within a certain period, the fine ticket is annexed with master file placed at Excise and Taxation office. It would be impossible for those issued e-tickets to get their vehicles transferred to some other till payment of the fine amount.
The fine can easily be paid through various mobile and bank accounts and other digital means.
The SSP (Traffic) said that this system would be improved in the coming days and ITP be upgraded on modern lines.
