Bahawalpur: Chairman District Coordination Committee MPA Mian Muhammad Shoaib Awaisi chaired a review meeting to assess progress on various development projects in the district.
The meeting conducted a detailed review of the pace of work, financial progress and completion status of development projects being implemented under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2026-27.
According to a report presented by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Bahawalpur and the Planning and Development Department, a total of 121 development projects have been included in the ADP 2026-27 for Bahawalpur district, with a combined estimated cost of Rs76.181 billion. These include 107 ongoing and seven new projects, while 34 projects have so far been completed. The report stated that Rs6.856 billion had been allocated for these projects during the financial year 2026-27. The Communication and Works Department has the largest development portfolio, comprising 60 projects.
An amount of Rs280 million has been allocated for nine projects of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Rs1.183 billion for six projects of the Local Government and Community Development Department, Rs600 million for two projects of the Forest and Wildlife Department, Rs54 million for four Home Department projects and Rs93 million for five projects related to the judiciary. Similarly, a total of Rs132 million has been earmarked for projects relating to Irrigation, Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering.
According to the report, the total approved cost of the seven new projects has been estimated at Rs22.033 billion, while Rs1.527 billion has been allocated for these projects during the current financial year. The Children’s Hospital Bahawalpur is among the major new projects, with an estimated total cost of Rs11.741 billion. The meeting was informed that seven liability schemes in the district had a combined cost of Rs101.6 million and that physical work on all these schemes had been completed.
The meeting also reviewed progress on various major development projects. According to the report, Rs4.3 billion has been allocated for the Burn Unit at Bahawal Victoria Hospital, Rs595 million for the Uch Sharif Sharfine Conservation Project and Rs917 million for Southern Bypass Phase-I. The estimated cost of the Chuneri Making Centre is Rs500 million. The meeting proposed that instead of unnecessary residential facilities, the project should focus on workshops for artisans and productive activities. Physical progress on the Dingarh Fort and Lal Suhanra Ecotourism projects was also reviewed, while the meeting conducted a detailed review of the Rs3.48 billion development scheme for Bahawalpur Zoo.
The meeting stressed the timely completion of development projects, maintenance of construction quality and prioritization of public interest. The concerned departments were directed to effectively monitor development schemes and complete them within the stipulated timeframe.
