ISLAMABAD:Caretaker Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Muhammad Sami Saeed on Thursday reviewed progress on Special Economic Zones (SEZs), being established under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Chairing a meeting, he directed the quarters concerned to accelerate the development work on SEZs to meet their deadlines, a news release said.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Chief Economist of Pakistan Dr. Nadeem Javaid, representatives from the Board of Investment, the Ministry of Commence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of Provincial Zones.
The provincial representatives gave a detailed briefing over the implementation status of SEZs, which include Rashakai Special Economic Zone, Dhabeji Special Economic Zone, Allama Iqbal Industrial City, Bostan Special Economic Zone, ICT Model Industrial Zone, Industrial Park on Pakistan Steel Mills Land, Mirpur Industrial Zone, Mohmand Marble City, and Moqpondass Special Economic Zone.
The SEZs were aimed at enhancing industrial development, benefiting local communities, and creating more job opportunities. The meeting was also briefed on the upcoming Belt & Road Forum.
The year 2023 marks the decade of CPEC and the strong partnership between Pakistan and China.
Accordingly, both Pakistan and China were celebrating 10 years of the Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) and CPEC from July 5, 2023.
Recently, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng visited Pakistan and attended a ceremony to mark 10 years of the CPEC project.
