ISLAMABAD:The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected petitions seeking cancellation of the bail granted to four accused in a land-grabbing and murder case in Rawalpindi’s Chontra area, directing the trial court to decide the case within six months.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan heard the case.
The accused, Ali Imran, Waseem Ejaz, Roman Imran and Waheed, are charged with murdering a man within the jurisdiction of Chontra Police Station. The case alleges that the land was occupied and the murder committed at the behest of a member of the provincial assembly.
During the hearing, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan observed that there was no allegation that the accused had misused their bail.
The court noted that the private complaint was also being heard alongside the main case.
The complainant’s counsel requested that the petition be disposed of as withdrawn. However, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar observed that the case could not be withdrawn after such an extensive hearing.
The accused had been granted bail by the high court, prompting the petitioners to approach the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of their bail.
