Lahore: Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) Chief Executive Officer Mian Kashif Ashfaq said on
Sunday that Pakistan holds historical and spiritual significance for millions of people around the globe as important sites of Buddhism, Hindus and Sikhs are situated on its territory.
Addressing a seminar on ‘Promotion of Religious Tourism’ organized by PFC, he added Pakistan has immense potential to develop religious tourism, which could significantly boost its economy and foreign reserves.
He said important sites such as the ancient Buddhist city of Taxila, the Hindu temples of Katas Raj, and the Sikh pilgrimage site of Kartarpur offer unique opportunities to attract tourists seeking spiritual journeys. Harnessing this potential requires improving infrastructure, promoting religious sites internationally, and ensuring security for tourists. Upgrading transportation, accommodations, and amenities near these destinations would make travel more convenient and comfortable for tourists.

He said historic Badshahi, Faisal mosques, Minar-e-Pakistan, Lahore Fort and Shalimar Gardens would also be centres of attraction for foreign tourists.
He said fostering interfaith harmony and ensuring the safety of tourists are crucial to make Pakistan an attractive and welcoming destination. This not only promotes the country’s soft image but also contributes to economic growth by increasing foreign exchange reserves. With a strategic approach, religious tourism can be a major avenue for Pakistan to overcome its economic challenges and position itself as a prominent player in the global tourism industry, he concluded.
