Sher Afzal calls for national unity against terrorism

Islamabad

ISLAMABAD:Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Sher Afzal Khan Marwat on Wednesday said the fight against terrorism should not be left to the army and police alone, stressing that the entire nation must unite to tackle the threat.

Speaking in the National Assembly, he said the nation had expected a joint declaration from the government-opposition negotiations, as 260 million Pakistanis looked towards their political leaders for an agreement.

‘If political leaders cannot reach an agreement even on such limited issues, what should the nation expect from them on bigger challenges in the future?’ he asked.

Recalling the personal loss caused by terrorism, he said he had carried the bodies of 125 relatives killed in different incidents, including his father.

He called for a comprehensive strategy to combat terrorism, saying the public must also play its part.

He urged political parties to set aside their differences and work together against militancy.

‘If soldiers and security personnel from other parts of the country are sacrificing their lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the local population also has a responsibility to play its part in this fight,’ he said.
