Lahore: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Lahore Faisal Kamran Thursday suspended the Batapur station house officer (SHO) for poor supervision and ordered the arrest of three policemen for allegedly keeping two citizens in illegal detention and demanding money from their family members.
According to a spokesperson for the DIG Operations, the officials facing departmental action had detained two citizens without any legal justification and allegedly demanded money from their relatives.
The accused officials failed to provide any lawful grounds for keeping the citizens in custody, the spokesperson added.
Sub-Inspector Intizar Ahmed, Head Constable Waqas Ahmed and Constable Nauman Yousaf were detained in the police lock-up, while a case was registered against them under Sections 155 and 384 of the Pakistan Penal Code over illegal detention and allegedly demanding money.
The SHO Batapur was suspended over poor supervision, and departmental proceedings were also initiated against him, the spokesperson said.
DIG Faisal said provision of relief to citizens and protection of their dignity were among the top priorities of Lahore Police.
He said strict accountability was being ensured against officials who used their police positions for personal interests, adding that no one would be given concession for misuse of authority.
