SITE Association decries sudden hike in wheat price

District

Hyderabad:Chairman of the Hyderabad SITE Association of Trade and Industry (HSATI) Zubair Ahmed Ghanghra has expressed serious concern over Rs2,500 increase in the price of a 100 kilograms bag of wheat.

In a statement issued here on Saturday he said the provincial government should control food price inflation and provide essential food items at affordable prices to the people.

“Such a sharp increase in the prices of wheat and flour will place an even greater burden on low and middle income families, who are already struggling to meet their daily expenses,” he underlined.

Ghangra recalled that in the past the provincial government purchased wheat from farmers under its annual budget arrangements, helping maintain price stability and protecting consumers from sudden flour price hikes.

He urged the government to take up the issue of food prices in its discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and seek measures that protect the public from rising costs.

He also called for immediate action to control wheat and flour prices and to investigate the reasons behind the increase.

Strict action against hoarding and unfair profiteering was also demanded.
