Multan: The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Unaccounted For Gas (UFG) Control Task Force has disconnected 65 gas meters during an intensified crackdown against gas theft, illegal connections, and technical violations across the district.
According to operational data released on Monday, task force teams inspected 1,330 locations in various parts of Multan, leading to 65 disconnections due to serious regulatory violations.
Of the total disconnections, 28 meters were removed for unauthorized compressor usage, including nine caught in recent raids. Teams removed illegal gas extensions at nine locations and disconnected 10 meters found tampered with or installed upside down.
Additionally, nine meters were removed for unauthorized commercial usage, two for illegal shifting, five on consumer requests, and one due to the location being beyond the designated service network. One case of direct gas theft was also uncovered during the operation.
An SNGPL spokesman stated that the crackdown aims to curb gas pilferage, restore system pressure, and ensure an uninterrupted and safe gas supply to genuine consumers.
SNGPL General Manager Multan reaffirmed that consumer safety remains a top priority and warned that strict, indiscriminate legal action will continue against gas thieves and rule violators.
