RAWALPINDI:The Suthra Punjab Agency (SPA) Rawalpindi has intensified cleanliness and anti-smog measures across the city and its tehsils, conducting 530 inspections and issuing 105 warning notices to people for littering in public places.

On the directions of Managing Director Rana Sajid Safdar, the agency was carrying out road washing, water spraying, manual sweeping, mechanical cleaning, soil scraping, waste removal and zero-waste operations to improve cleanliness and help reduce air pollution.

The agency’s field teams were working day and night to remove accumulated soil from road edges and medians, clear garbage heaps and maintain cleanliness in urban areas and public places.

During inspections conducted on Thursday in areas including Bani Chowk, Jalebi Chowk and Murree Road, the anti-littering squad issued 105 warning notices to people found throwing garbage and spreading dirt in public places. The squad warned that repeat violations could result in fines under the relevant laws.

Meanwhile, the agency’s communication team conducted an awareness campaign in schools, markets and residential areas of Taxila, educating citizens about the consequences of littering and open burning of waste. Awareness pamphlets were distributed, and residents were urged to cooperate in preventing smog and protecting the environment.

MD Safdar said public cooperation was essential alongside field operations to improve sanitation and curb smog. He noted that throwing or burning garbage in open spaces disrupted the sanitation system and contributed to air pollution.
