Islamabad: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI)-based weekly inflation increased by 0.99 percent during the week ended on September 24, 2026, for the combined consumption group, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported here Friday.
According to PBS data, the SPI for the week under review rose to 369.69 points from 366.05 points recorded in the previous week. On a year-on-year basis, the SPI increased by 11.92 percent.
The weekly SPI, with base year 2015-16=100, covers 17 urban centres and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups.
The SPI for the lowest consumption group (up to Rs 17,732) increased by 0.85 percent to 354.06 points from 351.07.
Likewise, the SPI for consumption groups of Rs 17,733-22,888, Rs 22,889-29,517, Rs 29,518-44,175 and above Rs 44,175 increased by 1.28 percent, 0.81 percent, 0.62 percent and 0.85 percent respectively.
During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 20 items (39.21 percent) increased, 10 items (19.61 percent) decreased, while 21 items (41.18 percent) remained unchanged.
On a week-on-week basis, the items that witnessed an increase in prices included Electricity for Q1, which rose by 18.76 percent, followed by Eggs (2.02%), Garlic (1.57%), LPG (1.55%), Pulse Masoor (0.75%), Chicken (0.72%), Washing Soap (0.59%), Pulse Gram (0.34%), Mutton (0.31%), Beef (0.30%), Curd (0.27%), Milk Fresh (0.14%) and Wheat Flour (0.11%).
On the other hand, the prices of Tomatoes decreased by 13.45%, Potatoes (8.33%), Bananas (5.66%), Onions (2.42%), Diesel (1.57%), Salt Powdered (0.90%), Petrol (0.34%), Sugar (0.23%), Mustard Oil (0.04%) and Gur (0.01%).
On a year-on-year basis, major increases were observed in the prices of Onions (115.98%), LPG (63.97%), Electricity for Q1 (58.59%), Diesel (51.80%), Petrol (47.49%), Wheat Flour (32.41%), Gents Sponge Chappal (16.69%), Chilies Powder (16.37%), Mutton (15.75%), Beef (13.22%), Firewood (10.72%), Bread Plain (8.96%), Shirting (8.38%), Washing Soap (8.36%) and Milk Fresh (8.10%).
A decrease is observed in the prices of Potatoes (39.21%),Sugar (21.14%), Tomatoes (19.81%), Eggs (18.40%), Salt Powder (14.73%), Pulse Gram (11.65%), Pulse Masoor(10.47%), Pulse Moong (7.89%), Gur (7.30%), Rice IRRI-6/9 (3.28%)., Garlic (3.03%), Chicken (2.51%) and Rice Basmati Broken (0.33%).
