LARKANA:The 16th Annual Convocation of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) Larkana Campus was held here at the Sachal Banquet, Opposite PTS Larkana, on Friday.
The Sindh Health Minister and Chancellor of SZABIST Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho was guest of honor on the occasion.
Vice Chancellor IBA Sukkur University, Mir Muhammad Shah was chief guest at the event.
Among others the ceremony was attended by Members Board of Trustees, Dr. Altaf Mukati, former Ambassador to UAE Abdul Razzak Soomro, Dr. Suleman Shaikh, Dr. Riaz Shaikh, Dr. Zahida Abro, Dr. Muhammad Altaf including members of SZABIST board of governors, members’ board of trustees, management, faculty, staff, graduates, parents and educationists.
Chancellor SZABIST-Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho opened the Convocation and Vice President academics Prof. Dr. Altaf Mukati conferred degrees on total 126 students, among which 77 were undergraduate students, 16 students of BSCS and 33 were of Master’s degrees from the various disciplines.
On the occasion , Five gold medals were awarded to recipients, Sandesna, Fouzia Sindh, Armila, Shah Taj and Suraj Kumar.
33 students’ names had also been placed on the “Chancellor’s Honor List” for securing a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) equal to or higher than 3.50.
In her speech, the Chancellor of SZABIST Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho emphasized upon the importance of higher education and the significance of research and development for the progress of the country.
She said SZABIST upheld the legacy of Benazir Bhutto, who was its founding chancellor.
She said the institution was established by Benazir Bhutto and the concept and design of its building was her gift to Larkana.
Dr. Azra Fazal remembered the contribution of Shaheed Mohtrama Benazir Bhutto for the betterment of youth of Pakistan and took oath from students to use their intellect and education only for the betterment of this country.
She said SZABIST’s mission was to work for the betterment of the country and its people and to contribute towards earning a prominent place for Pakistan in the comity of nations.
The chancellor of SZABIST Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, told the audience that she was proud of being the head of this institution.
She pointed out that SZABIST was established with the objective to produce highly qualified personnel to help meet the country’s requirements, adding that the university has become an institute of excellence.
“Science and technology holds the key to economic growth and social development,” she said adding that it was necessary to prepare a population that was not only knowledgeable and skilled but was also aware of its responsibilities.
Besides that people would also be willing to contribute to the growth of the nation as well as the well-being of the society.
Dr. Azra Pechuho said Szabist was devoting a substantial percentage of its funds towards research and development.
She said the convention was an important day for the students, in which they received a percentage of the hard work.
Young people were the major asset of our country, which teachers had made to work diligently to serve the country and the nation.
Our country was currently engulfed in many problems in the fields of social, political, economic and technology, the only solution to all of these problems is in education.
“The young people of our country, who are well aware of science and technology, should play their role in serving the country and the nation, as they are referring to the science and technology sectors with the world,” she said.
She also congratulated the graduates on their achievements and admired their unrelenting commitment in the completion of their degree.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Vice Chancellor of IBA Sukkur University Dr. Mir Muhammad Shah urged the graduating batch of 2021 that education was the only way forward for youth and students should keep their spirits high to serve nation.
Dr. Mir Muhammad Shah mentioned the importance of innovation and technology for the economic development of Pakistan especially Sindh and quoted example of different companies and countries who had grown dramatically in the recent years.
He said our young people have high hopes that after completing their education, they would travel to the corners of the globe, celebrate their name and country by performing services in the field of science and technology.
He also urged students to go for entrepreneurship and self-creation of jobs rather than going behind the government jobs.
