Lahore:Harbanspura police arrested three men and recovered 20,000 kites from a warehouse during a crackdown on the illegal manufacturing and sale of kites without government permission.
A spokesperson for the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations said on Thursday that the suspects were identified as Muhammad Farooq, Usman Ali and Waseem Asghar, adding that they were allegedly involved in the online sale and purchase of kites.
Police registered a case against the suspects under the Kite Flying Act, he added.
DIG Operations Lahore Faisal Kamran said 5,237 cases had been registered across the city this year over violations of the Kite Flying Act.
He said police had so far recovered 187,000 kites and 7,535 rolls of kite string from violators during the ongoing crackdown.
The DIG said the manufacture, sale and supply of kites in violation of government regulations was illegal and warned that strict action would be taken against those involved in the illegal kite trade.
He directed police to further intensify operations against those manufacturing, selling and supplying illegal kites, adding that violators would face arrest and imprisonment and no one would be given any concession.
