Mirpur: A widow from Bhimber district has appealed to senior police authorities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir to arrest the suspects nominated in the 2022 murder case of her only son, alleging that the investigation has remained stalled for three years and calling for a fresh and impartial probe.
Addressing a press conference at the Kashmir Press Club here on Tuesday, Kaneez Bibi, a resident of Barnala, said her only son, Sohail Karamat, was allegedly killed in broad daylight in 2022. She said an FIR was registered at Barnala Police Station, but the nominated suspects had yet to be arrested despite the passage of three years.
The grieving mother said her son had been her sole source of financial support and alleged that repeated appeals for action had produced no effective results. She further alleged that certain police officials had failed to take effective action against the accused, which, she claimed, had weakened the case.
Kaneez Bibi appealed to AJK Prime Minister Iftikhar Gilani, Inspector General of Police Malik Liaquat and DIG Mirpur Region Kamran Ali to take personal notice of the matter, order a fresh investigation, arrest the nominated suspects and ensure that the case was presented before the court for an expeditious trial in accordance with law. She also demanded action against any police official found guilty of negligence, dereliction of duty or collusion.
