Peshawar:: United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Coordinator, Asad Haroon on Thursday called on Inspector General of Prisons Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rehan Gul Khattak and discussed ongoing initiatives under the UNDP Rule of Law Project in the province.
The meeting focused on the draft Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Prison and Correction Act 2025 and the Virtual Courts project.
Asad Haroon informed the IG Prisons that UNDP would soon launch the second phase of its Rule of Law Project, which would include various programmes for KP prisons.
He said the project would support skills development programmes for juvenile and women prisoners to help equip them with useful skills for rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
He said UNDP would also support further strengthening the Prison Staff Training Academy, Haripur, to improve the professional training and capacity of prison staff.
Rehan Gul Khattak appreciated UNDP’s continued support for prison reforms and said such assistance would help improve the lives of prisoners and under-trial inmates in the province.
He said the two institutions would continue working together on initiatives aimed at further strengthening prison reforms in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
