Peshawar: Special Assistant to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister for Food Dr Muhammad Israr Khan on Wednesday said the province had sufficient wheat stocks and there was no threat of a wheat or flour shortage.
He said the provincial government’s timely release of wheat had contributed to a decline in wheat and flour prices and assured that measures were being taken to maintain supplies and ensure further price stability.
During his visit to the Peshawar grain godown, Dr Israr was briefed that 16,000 metric tonnes of wheat procured from PASSCO were currently available there, while another 4,000 metric tonnes were being transported to the facility.
He inspected the stocks and reviewed arrangements for safe storage, quality control and future supplies. He also examined the stock register and directed officials to ensure proper maintenance and preservation of the wheat.
The special assistant said the government was closely monitoring wheat availability, distribution and prices to ensure consumers received flour without disruption.
He said restrictions on inter-provincial movement of wheat imposed by the Punjab government had affected wheat and flour prices in KP, adding that the provincial government was taking up the matter with the federal and Punjab governments.
Dr Israr reiterated that the government would continue releasing wheat and taking other necessary measures to maintain adequate stocks and stabilize flour prices in the province.
