AMA to help people on banking services: DG

Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: State Bank Deputy Governor (DG) Seema Kamil on Tuesday said the Asaan Mobile Account (AMA) would make banking more accessible to poor segment of the society.

Talking to a private news channel, she revealed that since the AMA’s establishment, about 0.5 million people had registered through this service in a single day.

She explained that the AMA allows customers to open a branchless banking account by phoning *2262#, after which they can deposit money in their account at any branchless banking agent and use it for mobile phone transactions.

Customers will be able to choose from any of the 13 branchless banking service providers that are currently offering the AMA, she said.

She said the AMA will benefit low-income groups with non-digital phones and no access to the internet by allowing them to open bank accounts.

According to Seema Kamil, the National Data Registration Authority will assist in the verification of accounts by using its data base.
