LAHORE: The commerce ministry would consult all chambers and associations on the proposed extension in the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) term for two years.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA from Vehari Tahir Iqbal Chaudhry, along with former FPCCI vice presidents — Zafar Bakhtawari and Zahid Iqbal Chaudhry, Thursday called on SAARC Chambers President Iftikhar Ali Malik and briefed him about their meeting with Federal Commerce Secretary Saleh Ahmad Farooqi.
He said an MNA had moved a private members bill in the Assembly and the government had not initiated any move in that regard yet. However, the commerce ministry would hold consultations in that regard.
He said the issue of UBG presidential candidate Khalid Tawab appeal against the FPCCI elections was also taken up and the secretary said that the matter was pending before the cabinet committee.
Tahir Iqbal said UBG Secretary General Zafar Bakhtawari informed the secretary that Khalid Tawab’s appeal had been pending for the last nine months and not yet decided.
Zahid Iqbal said the government decision should be in the best interest of people and the business community and term of the FPCCI should remain the same.
