ISLAMABAD:Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTF) was hosting the first-ever COAS Pakistan Open International (G1) Taekwondo Championship from November 4 to 8 here at the Liaquat Gymnasium of the Pakistan Sports Complex.
Finest athletes (Male and Female) from various countries across the globe were coming to Islamabad for the said event, said a press release issued here.
Young people aged 18 and above were going to participate in Senior Male and Female Khyrougi event. Pakistani National and International Referees would be joined by other International Referees for the smooth conduct of the championship.
President PTF Lt Col (R) Waseem Ahmed, said, “Pakistan Taekwondo Federation will deliver, in every sense, the warmest and friendliest COAS Pakistan Open International (G1) Taekwondo Championship in sincere spirit in Islamabad.”
He stressed that such events were beneficial for the professional development of our officials and athletes. “These events improve the organizational skills of National Sports Federations, ultimately creating a better image of the beloved country.”
He lauded the support given by the Chief of Army Staff and his office, not only in encouraging the proposal at the initial stage but also by providing assistance so that better ties would be developed with other countries through the sports diplomacy.
In line with the vision of Prime Minister, through sports positive image of the country can be enhanced. Likewise, such events also endorse the continuous efforts of Minister Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Dr Fehmida Mirza and Pakistan Sports Board to bolster sports tourism in the country.
“I acknowledge and appreciate the support provided by the South Asian President Omar Saeed. Sponsors also played a vital role in facilitating the event,” he said.
For Over three days, 550 athletes would compete for gold and glory across 16 (Male/Female) Different Medal Categories. In this regard a media briefing would also be held on Monday (November 1).
