‘National Voters Day’ observed

FAISALABAD:The National Voters Day was observed here on Wednesday.

In this connection, a ceremony was held at the office of District Election Commissioner in which District Election Commissioner-I Basal Akram, District Election Commissioner-II Irfan Kausar, Chief Executive Officer Ali Ahmed Sian, Zonal Head NADRA Sarfraz Ahmed, NGOs, Society for Special Persons, representatives of minorities and social figures participated.

Addressing the ceremony, District Election Commissioner-I Basal Akram highlighted the objective of the ‘Day’ and said that the first election was conducted on the basis of One Person-One Vote on 7th December, 1970 in Pakistan.

He said that National Voters Day was utilized to spread awareness among the people about the importance of vote and participation in the electoral process. This day is observed every year to strengthen the democracy and democratic process in the country, he said.

He said that exercising the right of vote was a national obligation of every Pakistani.

He said that the verification process of voters by visiting door to door was underway; however, people coordination must to accomplish the task.

District Election Commissioner-II Irfan Kausar urged the need of coordination between Election Commission of Pakistan and all government, semi government and civil society organizations.

He also urged the participants to exercise their right of vote in the right way and motivate the others also to become part of the electoral process.

He also proposed initiating activities in rural areas for providing the awareness among people about the importance of vote.

CEO education Ali Ahmed Sian also spoke.
