KOHISTAN: Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) Monday successfully started Commercial Operation Date (COD) of 17 megawatts Ranolian Hydropower station Kohistan and linked it to the national grid.
The hydropower project would generate 416 million rupees revenue annually and started the provision of 17 MW clean energy to the national grid.
While talking to reporter Resident Engineer Syed Uzair Ahmed said that Ranolia Hydropower Project (RHPP) is a run-of-river type hydropower plant with an ultimate capacity of about 17 MW located along Ranolia Khwar.
He further said that it’s a tributary of Dubair Khwar, in District Kohistan while the hydropower plant (Powerhouse) is constructed near Dubair Bazaar on the right bank of Dubair Khwar upstream of its confluence with the Indus River.
Syed Uzair said that besides the production of 17 MW clean energy the construction of the RHPP has changed the fate of the region through several developmental schemes, social uplifting and employment opportunities for the locals.
He said that at present two local engineers are working in the RHPP operation and 15 local class IV would also hired while several other job opportunities would also be open for the natives of Kohistan.
“By the start of RHPP, we have completed a 5 kilometre carpeted road in the area, a colony for the employees and a dispensary which would be operational soon and would also facilitate the locals besides the employees of the project”, the resident engineer said.
