Hyderabad: A pole mounted electricity transformer exploded in Khai Road area here Friday night leaving over half a dozen persons injured besides perishing dozens of chickens and gutting 5 motorbikes including a loader rickshaw.
According to the spokesman of Rescue 1122 Dilbar Halepoto, the PMT’s oil spilled with the explosion due to which some people and vehicles in close proximity to the transformer were burnt.He told that the injured were rushed to the Liaquat University Hospital (LUH).
Helpoto added that their firefighters also extinguished the fire which had spread on the electric pole on which 3 transformers were mounted as well as the vehicles.Meanwhile, the local residents complained while talking to the media that they had paid for repair of the exploded transformer at least 3 times.Rizwan, a local resident who sustained bruises on his face, claimed that his house was about to catch fire but he and his family did the firefighting and prevented the fire from spreading.
The burnt persons shifted to the LUH include Muzaffar, Kamran, Faizan and Sirajuddin who were admitted in the Burns Ward.
One of them has 80 percent burns and the other 60 percent. Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s MPA advocate Rashid Khan said the residents should have informed him about the repaired transformer. He noted with concern that the exploded transformer was repaired 3 times when the Executive Officer of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) Faizullah Dahiri’s stated position was that transformers not be repaired but replaced with new ones.
The spokesman of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) Sadiq Kubar said the company’s chief has expressed sadness over the incident.He added that the CEO had also formed an inquiry committee with the directions to submit a report in 24 hours.
