Lahore: Punjab Minister for Communication and Works (CandW) Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth on Tuesday directed the field formations to complete 82 more roads under the Local Road Programme by September 7, while ordering strict monitoring and timely completion of ongoing road projects across Punjab.
He issued the directions while chairing a meeting attended by Secretary Communications and Works Raja Jahangir Anwar, Special Secretary, Additional Secretaries and other senior officers, while Superintending Engineers (SEs) and Executive Engineers (XENs) participated online.
The meeting was briefed on progress under the Local Road Programme in the North, Central and South regions. It was informed that work on signboards, lane marking and beautification of completed roads was progressing rapidly, while beautification activities were also being carried out on roads in rural and urban areas.
The provincial minister set a target for field formations to complete 82 additional roads by September 7, directing Chief Engineers to ensure completion of 26 roads in the South, 33 in the North and 23 in the Central region.
He directed the officers to complete all roads under the Local Road Programme within the stipulated timeframe and ordered immediate posting of officers against vacant positions in field formations.
Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth also directed that shoulders of roads constructed since 2024 be inspected, with damaged shoulders repaired within the next 10 days. He said he would personally remain in the field to inspect development projects and directed officers to conduct daily field visits to monitor road conditions and project progress.
He further instructed that road repair activities should continue after the monsoon to ensure sustainable improvement of the provincial road network.
The minister said that, in line with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the government was continuing efforts to provide the people of Punjab with the best possible travelling facilities.
