Islamabad: Flood-like conditions were reported in Ghauri Town Phase 2 after the flow of a drain was disrupted, causing water to enter streets, markets and residential areas.
During a visit to the affected locality, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Memon said the blockage of the drain led to the situation and authorities are continuing relief and drainage operations with heavy machinery.

Speaking during the visit, the deputy commissioner said the primary reason behind water accumulation in streets and commercial areas was the obstruction of a natural drain. According to him, some local residents had placed concrete slabs over the drain, restricting the normal flow of water.
He said the situation was further aggravated by the negligence of the housing society administration, which failed to ensure that the drain remained open and functional. As a result, rainwater and runoff could not pass through the channel, leading to overflow into nearby streets and homes.
The deputy commissioner stated that the affected locality is part of an illegal housing society and emphasized that strict action would be taken against individuals responsible for blocking the drain. He added that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) would proceed against those found involved in obstructing the waterway.
Relief activities are continuing across the area with the support of heavy machinery. Teams are working to clear the blocked sections of the drain and restore the natural flow of water. Officials said efforts are focused on removing standing water from residential streets and public spaces to reduce inconvenience for residents.
The district administration reported that drainage operations are progressing and water is gradually being diverted through the restored channel. Authorities are monitoring the situation and coordinating with relevant departments to prevent further flooding.
The deputy commissioner appealed to residents to avoid unnecessary movement until conditions improve and drainage work is completed. He said public cooperation is essential to ensure the safety of residents and to facilitate ongoing relief operations in the affected area.
