Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that access to accurate and timely information was the foundation of a better democratic society. In her special message on the International Day for Universal Access to Information, she stressed that transparency and accountability were essential for good governance and public trust. She said that access to information was indispensable for transparent governance, public confidence and informed decision-making.
She said accurate and timely information empowered citizens, strengthened their trust in government
and promoted transparency in decision-making. CM Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab government fully upheld transparency, accountability and the fundamental right of citizens to access information. She said ensuring transparency in government affairs and making institutions answerable to the public remained a top priority of the provincial government.
The chief minister said free and transparent access to information could play an effective role in combating corruption, adding that easy access to information was essential for transparency, accountability and good governance. She said the Punjab government was using modern technology to provide citizens with prompt and convenient access to official information.
The CM mentioned that practical measures were being taken to ensure public facilitation, transparency
and merit, while the Digital Punjab initiative aimed to deliver information and government services to citizens at their doorsteps. She said informed citizens were better equipped to make sound decisions and contribute to building a stronger society.
