Islamabad:An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday ordered jail authorities to arrange meetings between lawyers Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha and their counsels in a case concerning the removal of barriers.
ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra issued the directions during the hearing, ordering that lawyers Riasat Ali Azad, Zainab Janjua and Aimal Khan be allowed to meet the accused in jail.
Dr Shireen Mazari appeared before the court along with lawyers Riasat Ali Azad and Aimal Khan.
During the hearing, Riasat Ali Azad argued that the defence could not proceed with the case without meeting the accused. The court directed the prosecution to ensure that the accused were given access to their lawyers.
The judge observed that the anti-terrorism law required trials to proceed on a daily basis and asked the prosecution how many witnesses it intended to produce. The prosecutor informed the court that the prosecution had nine witnesses.
The court adjourned further proceedings until October 14.
