Attock: Attock Jail Superintendent Imran Berth was allegedly arrested red-handed with an envelope containing cash during an Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab crackdown, officials said on Tuesday.
According to officials, the incident occurred on October 5 when the superintendent visited the residence of Inspector General of Prisons Punjab Mian Salik Jalal at around 10 p.m. The two officials initially discussed security and administrative matters, following which the superintendent left the residence. He returned about two minutes later, saying he wanted to discuss another important matter with the IG.
During the meeting, the superintendent allegedly placed an envelope containing cash on the IG’s table. Mian Salik Jalal reportedly refused to accept the money and immediately informed the Punjab Home Secretary, who subsequently alerted the Anti-Corruption Establishment Punjab. ACE officials took action and allegedly arrested the superintendent along with the cash-filled envelope.
Inspector General of Prisons Punjab Mian Salik Jalal said the department had adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, bribery and misuse of authority, adding that no officer was above the law.
Further legal proceedings in the case are being conducted by the Anti-Corruption Establishment Punjab.
