Abducted newborn recovered in Gujranwala

Lahore: A suspect who abducted a newborn baby from a hospital in Gujranwala has been arrested, and the infant was safely recovered within hours on Tuesday.

According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA), the child's father reported the abduction after an unidentified individual took the baby from the hospital. Using footage from Safe City cameras, the police launched an investigation. By reviewing the footage, the suspect was quickly identified.

The PSCA spokesperson stated that the cameras captured the suspect carrying the newborn while riding a motorcycle. The Safe City Gujranwala team shared the video evidence with local authorities, prompting a swift police response.

Within hours of receiving the information, the police located and arrested the suspect, successfully recovering the baby and returning the child safely to the father.

Minister chairs meeting of Ring Road council

Lahore: Punjab Minister for Communication and Works (C and W) Sohaib Ahmad Bharth chaired an important meeting of the Punjab Ring Road Council at the C and W Department here on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by Secretary C and W Sohail Ashraf, Chairman Ring Road Authority Sohail Shahzad, Member Planning and Development Abid Bodla, and officers from the Finance Department.

Chairman Ring Road Authority Sohail Shahzad provided a detailed briefing on seven agenda items. The council members recommended that the authority's budget for 2024/25 and the financial records of the last five years be reviewed by the Finance Department and a chartered accountancy firm. Additionally, the recruitment methods and rules were advised to be vetted by the Services and General Administration Department (S and GAD) and the Regulation Wing.

The council approved regulations regarding axle load, road control, and traffic control, contingent upon the Law Department's input. For the authority's financial powers, it was suggested that these be vetted by the Finance Department before presenting them in the council meeting.

The members also recommended initiating a summary for establishing the Sialkot Ring Road project office and recruiting staff. Approval was granted for the post-upgradation of junior report officers, their performance allowances, and toll collection on the dual road connecting the GT Road to the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway via Whando.

ACP hosts commemorative event on 100th anniversary of Jamiluddin Aali

Karachi: Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi organized a remarkable event to celebrate the 100th birthday of the renowned poet, writer, critic, and creator of patriotic songs, Jamiluddin Aali. Event was presided over by Hamid Shafqat, with distinguished speakers including Dr. Fatima Hassan, Iqbal Latif, Rajo Jamil, Mirza Naseeruddin, Dr. Rukhsana Saba, Humaira Kasuri, and Khalid Moin.

Event began with the screening of a documentary film, "Khawab Ka Safar," which chronicled the life and literary journey of Jamiluddin Aali. Documentary, written by Dr. Fatima Hassan and presented by Murad Jamil, set the tone for the evening.

In his presidential address, Hamid Shafqat reminisced about Jamiluddin Aali's style and character. He shared how Aali, often seen in his signature Jinnah cap and sherwani, he also said that while noble families hadn't contributed much, but , Jamiluddin Aali as a noble, had made significant contributions to literature. He also spoke of Aali's generosity, stating that he would always ensure that his staff was well-fed before retiring for the night, reflecting his deep empathy for the people of Pakistan and its underprivileged classes.

First family Gur festival held in Abbottabad

Abbottabad: The Agriculture Departments of Abbottabad and Mardan, in collaboration with Model Farm Services Tuesday organized the inaugural Family Gur (Jaggery) Festival at the Agriculture Department office in Abbottabad.

Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad Sanaullah Khan inaugurated the event, which attracted significant participation from local farmers, citizens, and women.

Tehsil Chairman Lower Tanawal Junaid Khan Tanoli, Model Farm Services President Rashid Khan, District Agriculture Officers Mardan Amjad Khan and Malik Ijaz from Abbottabad, Field Officer Masood Tanoli, and retired agricultural officials participated in the event.

The festival aimed to encourage local farmers and showcase pure, chemical-free Gur products. Over 1,200 kg of gur were sold during the event. Additionally, stalls featuring olive oil and seeds for maize and wheat were set up.

Speaking at the event, Director of the Sugar Crops Research Institute, Mardan, Syed Asghar Ali, highlighted that sugarcane is cultivated on 92,000 hectares in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with yields ranging from 560 to 1,000 maunds per hectare under modern farming practices.

"Farmers increasingly prefer jaggery production due to low sugarcane procurement rates", he added.

The initiative was praised by participants, who expressed a commitment to organizing similar events to promote Hazara's agricultural products across the province.
