Public complaints counter set up

Sargodha: On the instructions of Commissioner and Administrator Municipal Corporation Jahanzeb Awan, a control room was set up in the MC office to address citizen complaints regarding municipal services.

Additional Deputy Commissioner General/Acting CO Municipal Corporation Umar Farooq said that the complaints cell will work round the clock, seven days a week.The public can register their complaints on phone number- 9230530.

He said that a comprehensive plan was made to provide better municipal services to the citizens.

Later, he visited various branches of the Municipal Corporation office in detail and directed employees to perform their duties honestly and diligently.

IIOJK people facing Indian state terrorism for demanding freedom: APHC

Islamabad: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has strongly denounced the Indian government's brutal and militaristic approach to resolving the Kashmir dispute, calling it a "reign of terror" that has led to unprecedented human rights abuses, political repression and suffering in the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said that the freedom- and peace-loving people of Kashmir are enduring severe political injustice with great resilience in their rightful struggle for self-determination.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has vehemently demanded an end to Indian oppression in Kashmir, condemning the brutalities and repressive measures employed by the BJP-led Indian government in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The APHC emphasized that the Kashmiri people's struggle for freedom cannot be suppressed by India's military might, and that their determination to achieve self-determination remains unwavering .

Paying glowing tributes to the martyrs of Sopore, Gawakdal, Handwara, and Kupwara, he said the invaluable sacrifices made by the brave people of Kashmir for the sacred cause of freedom from Indian subjugation will not go in vain.

He stated that despite India's suppression and repression, the unwavering resolve shown by the people of Kashmir has shaken Indian military arrogance and thwarted its sinister designs to break their will.

The APHC spokesman praised the courage of freedom-loving prisoners of conscience, including Masarrat Aalam Butt, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Aasiya Andrabi, Naheeda Nasreen, Fehmeeda Sofi, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Ayaz Akbar, Pir Saifullah, Merajuddin Kalwal, Shahid-ul-Islam, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Mushtaqul Islam, Bilal Siddiqi, Molvi Bashir Irfani, Ameer Hamza, Dr. Hameed Fayaz, Hayat Ahmed Butt, Abdul Ahad Parra, Zaffar Akbar Butt, Muhammad Yousuf Falahi, Dr. Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Dr. Muhammad Shafi Shariati, Rafiq Ahmad Ganai, Fayaz Hussain Jaferi, human rights defender Khurram Parvaiz, and others languishing in Tihar and other jails across India and the occupied territory.

The spokesman urged the United Nations Human Rights Council and other human rights organizations to visit the grim jails in India and IIOJK to assess the plight of the illegally detained Hurriyat leaders and activists.

He also called on the international community to support Kashmiris' just struggle for self-determination, help stop the worst human rights abuses perpetrated by Indian forces in IIOJK, and play a role in resolving the longstanding Kashmir dispute in line with UN resolutions.

LCWU, UET VCs discuss modernizing of institutions

Lahore: Vice Chancellor of the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) Prof. Dr. Uzma Qureshi visited University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore and met with Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir.

She congratulated him on assuming the charge of Vice Chancellor UET. During the meeting at the VC office, she discussed modernizing the university for its development and stability and shared her experiences. She expressed hope that under Dr. Shahid Munir's leadership, UET would achieve a prominent position in the fields of knowledge and research.

Gilani for fair probe into Nishtar Hospital HIV outbreak case

Multan: Senate Chairman, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, stated that an impartial investigation into the Nishtar HIV case would be conducted to identify the source of its outbreak. He emphasized that no one should be suspended without evidence.

He also asserted that NMU and Hospital are a source of pride for the people of South Punjab and vowed not to let undemocratic practices prevail there. He promised that the issues of Nishtar would be raised vigorously in all parliamentary forums by the Gilani family.

Mr Gilani expressed these views while talking to a delegation of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Multan Chapter which called on him at Gilani House to discuss the HIV issue at Nishtar Hospital.

During the meeting, the President PMA, Dr. Masood Hiraj, informed the Senate Chairman that the issue at the Nephrology Department of Nishtar Hospital had been politicized, and false reports were sent to senior authorities, resulting in hasty actions that ended up harming patients.

The Nephrology Department, which was already short-staffed, had its doctors and head nurse suspended, and Dr. Mehnaz Khakwani, the Vice Chancellor Nishtar Medical University, was dragged into the matter.

The delegation urged the formation of an impartial, high-level inquiry committee comprising senior experts from various fields to ensure a transparent investigation into the HIV issue.

The delegation also presented demands for the upgrading of NMU, the construction of residential towers at Nishtar Hospital and Nishtar-II Hospital, and the immediate registration of postgraduate trainees with the PMDC.

The delegation included Dr. Imran Qaisrani, Dr. Nasrat Buzdar, Dr. Zulqarnain Haider, Dr. Waqar Niazi, and others.

HEC convenes NCRC meeting in discipline of Public Health

Islamabad: Higher Education Commission (HEC) Tuesday convened a meeting of the National Curriculum Review Committee (NCRC) in the discipline of Public Health at HEC Regional Center, Lahore.

The meeting brought together 15 experts from academia, showcasing a shared commitment to enhance the academic and professional standards of the Public Health programme.

Dr Farida Anjum, Director (Academics) HEC welcomed the participants and appreciated their commitment towards the discipline by participating as members of the committee for review and revision of the curricula of degree programmes in the discipline of Public Health.

The NCRC elected Dr Ramesh Kumar, Professor and Dean (Public Health) Health Services Academy, Islamabad as the Convener of the committee.

Muhammad Tufail Qureshi, Deputy Director (Academic) HEC gave a presentation on the process of curriculum development and provided an overview of HEC's Undergraduate Education Policy (2023), Graduate Education Policy (2023), HEC Uniform Semester Guidelines and the National Qualification Framework.

After two days of thorough deliberations, curricula for BS and MS degree programmes in the discipline of Public Health were finalized.

PCB chairman commits strategic support for uplift of hockey

Lahore: Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi has said the PCB will provide strategic support for the uplift of hockey and other support in the country.

During a meeting with former Olympians Shahbaz Senior and Khawaja Junaid at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Gaddafi Stadium here on Tuesday, he urged the need for reforms in hockey, adding the PCB remains committed to working collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure the uplift of sports in Pakistan.

The former stars of Pakistan hockey hailed Chairman Naqvi's principled stance on the ICC Champions Trophy, besides swift reforms undertaken to improve Pakistan's cricket structure.

The former hockey greats emphasised the need for a similar pace of reforms to revitalise Pakistan's hockey system.

The meeting centred on exploring sustainable measures to promote hockey across Pakistan.

Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi reiterated his unwavering support for the development of the sport, acknowledging hockey's status as the national game and its illustrious legacy.

'Hockey is Pakistan's national sport and holds a proud history of global achievements. Restoring its past glory remains a priority, and we will extend our full support to achieve this,' Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said.

Shahbaz Senior and Khawaja Junaid provided insights from their visits to German and Dutch hockey clubs, sharing best practices for youth development and grassroot initiatives. They also briefed Chairman PCB on the scheduled tour of the German National Junior Hockey Team to Pakistan in March 2025, underscoring importance of international engagements in fostering growth of hockey.
